How to choose an epoxy flooring contractor in the GTA

Look at projects that resemble your own space

Start with before-and-after examples rather than a close-up of a finished colour. Look for the entrance, floor perimeter, steps and transitions that resemble your garage or porch. Ask the installer to explain what was included and which parts of that example are relevant to the work you want.

Compare the preparation and coating layers

Ask what the contractor needs to learn about the existing slab before specifying the work. Mention old coatings, stains, cracks and water history. Manufacturer preparation guidance identifies substrate evaluation and preparation as part of resin-floor installation; a colour choice does not settle those questions.

Request the proposed preparation, repair allowance and coating layers in the scope. Terms such as epoxy, flake and polyaspartic do not explain every product or layer. Ask what forms the exposed finish, what texture is proposed and how steps or raised edges are handled. Make sure competing quotes cover the same surfaces.

Ask about disruption, not just installation speed

A fast installation is useful only when you also know how to plan around it. Discuss moving contents, alternative parking, household access and the person who will answer site questions. Clarify what might change the planned dates and how you will be told.

Understand the five-year warranty and handover

SMA offers a five-year warranty. Before accepting your proposal, ask for the applicable coverage, exclusions, care requirements and claim process. Keep those terms with the agreed scope so you know what applies to your installation.

Use the same approach when comparing other installers. A warranty’s duration is only one part of the offer. Confirm who provides it and how concerns should be reported. Request any insurance or certification documents your project requires; do not assume a badge or broad marketing phrase answers a specific requirement.

Bring these questions to your estimate

A good first conversation should leave you with a clearer next step. Tell SMA your city, approximate floor area, current condition and desired finish. Include your timing priorities and the access you need to maintain. If you have competing proposals, compare the written scope item by item before comparing the totals.
